The Kony story is very old, even though, he is still doing this ( the boy shown is now going to law school and is in his 20's), but people like him use drugs and intimation. It is very easy with the right conditions to brain wash children and by adding drugs it makes them need him to keep feeding addiction he has established. Most think they can't go home because of what they have done and actually psychologically they begin to identify more with the person who kidnapped them than they do with the family they are from.
