Middle C is the C located just to the left of the middle of most pianos.
Because its almost in the centre (middle) of all the keys and the note is a c =)
If you have a Bfootjoint... the lowest note is a B natural, one note below Middle C. If you have a Cfootjoint.. the lowest note is a C natural or Middle C.

The note represented by the keyword "middle C" when written on the treble clef staff is the C note that is located in the middle of the piano keyboard.
