Blues has many many different sounds, as there is a huge range of styles within the Blues genre, such as Boogie Woogie, Classic Blues, and Jump Blues. Unlike the common misconception, Blues does not have to have a "sad" or "blue" sound to it, of course it can, but it doesn't always. Boogie Woogie is a good example of a spirited and cheerful style of Blues. It is almost impossible to describe the style of Blues overall, as it is such a diverse genre. Blues uses a major, minor, or hybrid Blues scale, which helps create different qualities of sound in pieces.

The blues scale that's used: flattened 3rd, 5th and 7th. Although it is essentially a diatonic scale with improvisation using these 'blue notes'.

Although it did originate on the fields where black slaves used to work in rhythm to their singing.
