I'm not really sure, but I hated the answer of "I don't know." that was currently in place, so I decided to look around.
I heard on pluggedinonline. com that it may have been written from the perspective of the thief on the cross with Jesus. It reminded me of The Bible story of the rich man who died and went to hell. He begged for just a drop of cool water on his tongue, so as to feel some relief. Then he asked to return to life, so he could warn his brothers to accept Jesus and not go to hell. He wasn't able to return, because once you've died, you've died. That's what it sounds like to me.
