My students and I analyzed this song today as we talked about the history of Native Americans in our country. They actually came up with the thoughts that it might be a symbol for peace, or calm times. "He told us that the yellow moon would very soon be leaving" - we thought that meant that perhaps there was going to be fighting and no more peace. "For soon I'll find the yellow moon along with my loved ones" - this is after he decides to give up running, and fight back, knowing that death is not far off. We thought this meant he would soon die, and go to heaven and be reunited with his loved ones.
