Yes and no. If you mean did he use cocaine or heroin or street drugs, the answer is no. He did drink sometimes, but his problems started when he became addicted to prescription drugs. Sadly, he had an unscrupulous Doctor Who kept giving him more and more pills; he was soon using a variety of addictive substances, including amphetamines, painkillers, and sleeping pills, far in excess of any safe dosage. This contributed to his death when he was only forty-two.
