I just checked the manual for my 02' Liberty, and didn't locate any for the lift gate,
so if I were you, I'd just start checking each fuse, to see if one is blown?Good Luck.

they dont make 2001 liberty's, 2002 was the first year. You need a new latch from the dealer. they dont make 2001 liberty's, 2002 was the first year. You need a new latch from the dealer.
No.
2002 jeep liberty limited four wheel drive is stuck in 4 low how do I get it unstuck?
Not a hundred percent sure, but it is likely that your door latch didn't unlatch the window when it opened, thus not allowing the window to re-latch when it closes. Check the latch and make sure that it is opening the window latch when you open the door. I have a 2006 liberty that's what happened on mine. Not sure if the 2002 is the same as the 2006, but its a good start
It was an option, not standard equipment.
To fix a broken trunk latch on a 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, start by inspecting the latch mechanism for any visible damage or misalignment. If the latch is stuck, use a lubricant to loosen it, and check the connecting cable for any breaks. If the latch is broken, you may need to replace it by removing the interior trim panel to access the latch assembly. Once replaced, test the latch to ensure it operates smoothly before reassembling the trim.
Does the 2002 Toyota Highlander have LATCH connectors?
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo...It does NOT have a latch system.
The spare tire on back gate is heavy and wears down the latch. If you put thin foam or tape around the inside latch it will be good again until that wears off.
the answer is no. 2002 was the first year the liberty was made. in 2003 they change the computer modules..the only engine you can put in a 2002 jeep liberty is a 2002 engine
I had this same exact issue a few weeks ago on my jeep liberty 2002 limited v6 engine I personally took the jeep to my mechanic and sit and watched him check my car a million different ways. He then advised me that i needed a new latch since it would work well when he hit the manual release he felt the pieces was defaulted....However the day i got the part back and he replaced it the issue did not go away....After about and hour working and moving around stuff on my back gate and door he discovered the answer. Which is the wires in the door where extremely long and the one to the to the latch was being cut off all he had to do was replace the wires. So if you are having this problem have your person check the wires in the door where the door is attached to the main part of the car.
Mine does.
