What happened to system of a down?

They went on hiatus (which basically means they temporarily split up) a few years ago. Right now, they are not a band, but they will most likely be back together fairly soon. (at least I hope so, they are my favorite band)

While some would say otherwise on principle, yes, they are an excellent band. The music covers a range of styles (from hard and fast to slow pieces, often in the same song) and the lyrics usually have a positive political theme. Their success and popularity is a further testimony to how good they are.

They are on hiatus, and it will probably last for a couple of years. They have been doing System of a Down non-stop for the past 10 years.

Everybody is working on solo stuff. Serj is currently promoting his album Elect the Dead. Shavo is working on his side project, Achozen, and is expected to put out an album in '08. Daron is working on an album for Scars on Broadway, to be released in '08, he also has his own label. John has drummed for Serj and Daron's side projects, and is working on building an internet-based comic-book company called 'Torpedocomics'.

They have made the point very clear in many interviews that they are NOT breaking up, but taking a long hiatus.

No they are not back together yet. They have been on hiatus since 2006 and will be back sometime this year(2010)
