What happens in the Gives You Hell music video?

I believe the song lyrics are about a woman who broke his heart, and he hopes that it breaks her heart to see him. (obviously a bad break up) but the video is very different. At first i thought maybe the rock-star like man was the goody-goody man, from the past. And he was just reliving the past and saying that it gives him hell to think about his crazy past. But that also seems strange because at the end, the men switch places (and women) But it could still be a vision sort of portraying the good man's want to be wild and young again-and the rock-star man's longing to be sophisticated and content. Although, this is just my opinion. I have no real knowledge of what the All American Rejects were trying to show in this video, it really could have no meaning and be for fun.
