Haydn (1732-1809) played the keyboards (harpsichord, pianoforte and surely organ), and violin.

He composed mostly for harpsichord and pianoforte (sonatas and some free pieces), for baryton (a curious string instrument that played Prince Esterházy), also for chamber music (trios with pianoforte, string quartets). Also concertos for various instruments (cello, Trumpet, keyboard, violin, horn, maybe Oboe).

For the court of Prince Nicolas Esterházy (and previously Count Morzin), more than 104 symphonies, masses, operas, concertos.

Haydn spent 29 years as Vice-Kapellmeister then Kapellmeister at the court of the Hungarian family Esterházy (from 1761 to 1790), then he retired and was invited in London to give concerts and compose symphonies (the "London" symphonies, n°92 to 104).

Afeter his last trip, he moved to Vienna, where he taught a little to Beethoven, composed his two great oratorios.

Joseph Hayden was a very famous composer. he was considered one of the best composers of his time.
