It's been a while since I've heard it, and I don't really care for the song all that much, but as I recall it's pretty much about touring and doing concerts and how much the singer enjoys that lifestyle.
They get old, they never really lose it as they age but they just stop doing it as much. They get sick, older birds tend to get respiratory diseases and don't have the capacity for crowing any longer.
