A semi-brieve is a note that is equal to a whole bar, or 4 beats of time in music.

It is equal to two minums, 4 crotchets, 8 quavers or 16 semi-quavers.

It's called a semi-brieve because the brieve used to be the standard notation for a whole bar and was equal to 8 beats.

It also has a few other name including whole note, bar note, bar length note and others.
