A song with the lyrics removed would just be the instrumentation of XYZ song. A song without any lyrics in the first place is called an instrumental.
Whoever answered "TECHNO MUSIC" is delusional or just playing with you... *cough* A song without lyrics are "instrumental" songs. They are composed to convey thought without needing the use of words. There are also "karaoke" songs which are songs that have had their lyrics taken out of the original song so that you could sing along to it. You actually call a piece of music with no lyrics such as a classical concerto or metal Instrumental a "piece", although it can be called an instrumental as well. You "sing" a song and you "play" a piece.
There were no lyrics to it because the song was an instrumental, meaning that the whole song had no singing just instruments playing.

well somehow in the olden days lyrics were just a natural thing to come into the play of music. That doesn't always mean you have to have lyrics to make music.Lyrycs came along to unreavel songs and you would have to have instruments with some exeptions.Lyrics are a big affect on feelings wheather your excited having a party or even in hard time lyrics are realy important. So its basically that lyrics came naturally into musical instruments.
