What is difference between radi program promo and radio Station ID?
A "promo" is a "promotional" announcement of some sort, that generally says something like "You and all your friends should listen to this radio station as much as you can because it is the greatest." The reason for these announcements is to build the station's listening audience by convincing you that this station is cool. A "station ID" or "Identification" is a legal requirement of every licensed radio station. When I was on the radio, a legal ID consisted of the station's call- letters and location, and had to be spoken in plain language within 5 minutes of every hour and haf-hour. I don't know what the legal requirement is now, as my experience dates from the BMDF&A era (before Marconi, DeForest, and Armstrong, roughly contemporary with Maxwell and Hertz).

The reason you hear it much more than that is becausethe station needs to have its listeners know what station they're listening to, so theymust drum it into you as often as possible, as if you're deaf, not listening, or stupid.The reason the station MUST have its listeners know what station they're listening tois in order for you to be able to give the correct answer when an audience-ratingservice calls you and asks "What radio station are you listening to ?" If you'relistening but have no idea of the name of the station, then it does the stationno good. If you're listening AND you're able to name the station, then your answergoes to pump up the station's audience rating, which goes straight and directlyinto their ability to go "blah blah we're #1" and consequently charge their advertisershigher rates for commercial time.
