they are more powerful made mostly for metal like Slayer Ozzy Osbourne and so on, the two big brands are EMG and Seymour Duncan.

they use batteries in them (9 volt batteries) which last over 2000 hours for either brand, so its just like normal ones but some argue they sound better and they cancel a lot of the hum normal pickups tend to do.
