In classical music, particularly in Europe, the Fach system is traditionally the accepted method of voice classification. Voices receive classification based upon a list of qualities such as timbre, range, & transition among others.
Fernando Sor is best known for his Spanish guitar compositions in the late 1700's. Although this was his main genre he also composed music for voice, piano, opera and string quartet and even had a ballet score that had over 100 performances.
