They are the same.I think? A cornet is shorter because of the way it is configured but they both have the same length of tubing.
If you mean which plays lower, neither. A B-flat Trumpet plays exactly the same notes as a B-flat cornet.

You would have to make some kind of adapter that would allow the larger trumpet mouthpiece fit into the smaller cornet leadpipe. I don't think anyone does that. It's easier, and more correct, just to buy a cornet mouthpiece since a cornet mouthpiece is designed specifically to fit a cornet.

There is no single inventor of the cornet or trumpet. It has been developed by many people over history. The modern valve cornet was invented by Courtois in 1855.

the cornet
A trumpet is longer than a cornet and the mouthpieces are a little different on the end that goes into the instrument. A cornet's is smaller around and shorter. Also, a cornet has a slightly mellower sound. They are very interchangeable. If you can play one, you can play the other. They sound pretty much the same and you can play trumpet music on a cornet, and vise versa. Some older music will have trumpet and cornet music, but it doesn't matter which the music is played on.

Cornet-kind of like a small trumpet actually
