Good King Wenceslaus fills the bill. I always thought the (poor man) he tried to help assassinated the monarch. all of the references are in the past tense ( unusual for Christmas songs, except maybe Frosty the Snow Man) - the Feast of Steven- the 26th of December, honors the Martyed saint who was stoned ( as a method of execution) I never liked the song or its essentially downbeat angle of presentation.
