The age of this instrument depends on which "Howard" piano company you are referring to. For the more "modern" Howard Piano Co. pianos built by Baldwin, serial number 76963 would indicate an instrument built between 1960 and 1965. If it is a vintage Howard R.S., however, this serial number would indicate one of the last pianos built by the company between 1930 and 1932.

Did Baldwin build pianos under name of Winton?

Dwight Hamilton Baldwin was an itinerant music teacher in the singing school tradition, although he also taught violin and reed organ. In 1866 Lucien Wulsin was hired as a clerk, becoming a partner in 1873 with the formation of D.H.Baldwin Company. Baldwin built pianos under the names Hamilton, Howard, Sargent, Winton, Chickering, Wurlitzer and even the Bechstein Piano. The 1921 Winton (Baldwin) Upright Piano, was a famous family piano.
