What is the best Bass Guitar?

there cant be 'the best Bass Guitar', theres many different varieties when it comes to tones, strings, amps, playing style, etc etc. Im not sure what kind your looking for, but try looking up bass musicians and what bass they play and their set. Rickenbacker, Wal, Music Man Stingray, are just examples of some basses. But when it comes to music tastes, bass musicians like Victor Wooten (Grammy winning bass player), Les Claypool (famous for pop/slap style and bass), Justin Chancellor (strumming and his amps on bass) to name a couple, they generally prefer custom made basses. but research your favorite bass player for more info on their bass, style, and so on.

Short answer: it depends. It depends on how experienced you are, how much you want to spend, and your own preferences for sound and the feel of the instrument.

If you are just beginning, I recommend get either the Ibanez starter pack or the Fender Squire starter pack. They both come with a bass guitar, bass amplifier, bass guitar chord, and an instructional video. The Ibanez IJXB190, which comes with the Ibanez pack, is considered by many to be the best beginning bass on the market, but often the Fender Squire pack is more available in stores and is still a good choice.

When you get to intermediate level and above, there are so many options, so many good basses by different brands, it's hard to say. Some recommendations for brands to look at are Fender (especially the Fender Jazz Bass), Peavey, and Ibanez.

Even with these brands, though, you should never buy blind (i.e. on the internet or from a store without playing first). You can have some good luck these ways, but as a general rule you should never buy a bass without buying it first, and play with it for at least a half an hour before you buy it.

Things to look for in buying a bass:

American basses are usually much better quality than Korean, Chinese, or Vietnamese made basses. Check the overall woodwork of the instrument, especially where the neck meets the body and the fretwork. Before you buy anything, play with it for at least a half hour in the store and make sure you feel comfortable playing it, make sure it feels right, and most importantly make sure it sounds right. Really listen and trust your ear, and make sure it sounds good to you, and doesn't sound too "boxy" "tinny" or "muddy."

A good begining bass is either a firstact or a fender starter kit from Guitar Center or other instrument store.

Check out Arbor Guitars, they make great beginner instruments, including Bass.

in my opinion, an ibanez is a good choice, i bought it on eBay for $110 and a crate electra for $50 by my uncle. ibanez will last a long time, some people say peavey is a good brand but my dad hates them, but for you, you may need an epiphone les paul, sg ,flying v, explorer, or a peavey millennium.

The best? I think the best is whatever aids you in sounding and playing the most like you want to and/or are able to. Good quality can be had very reasonably these days; but real craftsmanship and the finest woods and components never come cheap. Performance however, in the right hands can be had from a Camaro that could rival a Ferarrai....

Jazz i would have to say the best is the Fender deluxe American jazz bass

For *regea*, alternative,and any exotic music I'm not really sure, i have seen a latin band using my bass exactly accept it was an Ibanez sr505.

Depends on who you ask and when. Sir Paul McCartney could have any bass amp he wanted and uses Ashdown ABM900 EVO II Twin Bass Amplifier Head & Cab. However, he has also used a Fender Bassman and Vox bass amps going back to his Beatle Days. A lot of bassists swear by the Ampeg SVT. Other use the Sunn bass amp. It really depends on what sound you like, but any of these classic bass amps would be fine choices.

I personally like BC Rich basses for their shapes and everything but traben is one that really caught my eye, kind of expensive though as its like 599.99 or 799.99 for disturbeds signature bass, I had no idea it was his signature bass till I got home.

but ANY bass sounds good with a line 6 bass pod, best 100$ you'll ever spend (canadian money)
