I would have to say piano, because it is an instrument that teaches the child both treble and bass clef. If in the future the child wishes to play another instrument, it is relatively easy to switch over. I was taught piano when I was three, and now i am a better violinist because of it.
it depends. Your child can play in orchestra or band. All instruments are not easy and not hard. To be honest, a band instrument is a little easier to play then an orchestra instrument. If your child is willing to take a challenge, then i would recommend •violin, cello, bass, double bass, etc.
But, i have heard that orchestra takes years to get good on songs, but if your child is willing to take the challenge, go ahead!!
Band, if your child likes high sounds, i recommend flute, and Clarinet, clarinet involves many challenges as well, but flute, when you first have the flute it is very to blow, but once you get into it, its a lot of fun, its a beautiful instrument that plays graceful sounds. You see, orchestra is not always challenging i've heard low brass has been challenging. Trumpet is a fabulous instrument, its nice and loud and you can hear it, not very hard, blowing takes some practice, like flute, If you play the clarinet you can take sax, and its a great transfer, lovely instrument, i recommend if you want to play the sax, you play the clarinet first, (exact same fingering) Trombone takes long arms. Its very hard, but its very fun, if you son/daughter has long arms and interested in low sounds, Go ahead!! there are many instruments i can sit here and talk about, but to be honest, let your child choose, go to a music store and let them blow and play the instrument, they might want to take a challenge or have a fun and enjoyable instrument!
Let your child decide, after all they are the ones playing the instrument!!
I would assume the clarinet. It is maybe one of the most easiest instruments. I learned how to play within two weeks.
electric keyboard, because you can change the keyboard samples to sounds like any other instrument, as you progress, and it keeps the child learning interested.

"Play it by ear" refers to a musical sense, as in playing an instrument without the sheet music to read, so you are going to play what you hear, or play it by ear. It is a term signifying that you are going to keep your ears open and produce a result as more information arises. In this sense it is referring to time and whether or not you have a plan or are going to play it by ear and decide later on the best plan or to improvise. It is never "Play it by year". The phrase was born out of the musical world and has come to be stretched to other aspects of life, as with many old sayings. For example, when people say to ''nip it in the bud" they are almost never referring to a flower or plant. This phrase usually refers to a problem or ailment and stopping it from getting any bigger or growing as a bud would open and blossom, hence nip it in the bud (while it's small and manageable).
The correct phrase is "play it by ear," which means to make decisions as situations arise rather than planning ahead.
