My recommendation would be to replace this tranny with one purchased from a reputable salvage yard and letting a local trusted mechanic do the work. . Rebuilding these transmissions is horribly expensive for the Average Joe going to a tranny shop and you can save tons of cash by having a used one installed. If you purchase from a large salvage lot or let your mechanic arrange the purchase and install it you might even have a short warranty on the parts and labor. Sorry I can't give you cash dollar amounts but since this is an 11 year old vehicle I'm sure that you don't want to take it to the dealer and have a new transmission put in........you'd probably be better off buying a new vehicle instead of doing that.
Good luck to you !!!!
The most compatible and completely interchangeable transmission that can be used with a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is the 45RFE transmission. This is from a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Only this model year is compatible with the 1999 model year as the vehicles shared 127 of the exact same parts.

The 2014 Jeep Grand-Cherokee has a 8-speed shiftable automatic.
No, they will not interchange.
Will bolt up, but will not shift. The 1998 is controlled differently by the computer.
It would be far cheaper to replace it with a used one than to rebuild the existing one.
If same engine and transmission models, yes.
Not really a "do it yourself" project. It pretty much requires a complete transmission rebuild and isn't recommended for the shadetree mechanic.
Yes, it is inside the pan.

Try changing you oil and if that does not help you will need to rebuild the tranny or replace it.
The flywheel, also called a flexplate, is in between the engine and transmission.
where is the fill tube for the transmission on a 2001 jeep grand cherokee

Using a very clean small plastic funnel pour it down the transmission dipstick tube.
