Most people can tell the difference but I would suggest (as a very broad generalisation) punk tends to be faster and the lyrics more political whereas metal tends to be heavier and slower with more solos but like I say, some punk bands combine metal styles and some metal bands use punk drum beats/lyrical styling etc
Punk metal refers to metal with a large punk influence. It ranges from speed metal like Motörhead, to crossover thrash like Stormtroopers of Death, to black/punk like The Rocking Dildos, and crust punk like Amebix.
punk is more emo and goth then rock :) hope that answers your question
punk, metal, rock, classic rock, alternative, neopunk, gypsy punk, fat punk, butt punk, soft metal, heavy metal, comed and ur butt
There is no difference really, between a punk rock picnic and a punk rock gig. Both of them are punk rock festivals, which means that there is lots of people coming to see it, bands performing live, people having fun, etc. The only difference might be that, at a punk rock picnic, there are some areas where people can sit and eat, whereas at a punk rock gig you can still eat, but you mostly stand up and do the pogo/moshing dance with the crowd, so that can be the only difference.
Grind goes high and low at times -- same as powerviolence; punk is just "punky" but with a "metal" tone to it.

nope its Heavy Metal, Metal, Hard Rock.As musicians, they have punk influences, but their early music is thrash.
Alternative rock is a kind of rock music, so, there is no difference. There's no such thing as just plain, "rock music," rather, there are dozens of different sub-genres: early rock, folk rock, psychedelic rock, classic rock, punk rock, glam rock, heavy metal, grunge, alternative, etc. And many of the sub-genres have their own sub-genres, like, thrash metal, black metal, progressive metal, Viking metal, speed metal are sub-genres of heavy metal, and proto-punk, post-punk, punk pop, hardcore punk, British punk, New York punk are all sub-genres of punk music. All of these sub-genres and sub-sub-genres can be called "rock music." Like, you can say that Nirvana is a rock band, or, you can be more specific and say they are a grunge band. You can say that Black Sabbath is a rock band, or, you can be more specific and say they are a heavy metal band. Or, you can say the Ramones are a rock band, or, you can be more specific, and say they are a punk rock band. It's sort of like, there's green M&Ms, red M&Ms, blue, orange, yellow, and brown M&Ms, but there are no "plain" M&Ms. See the Related Link below for the Wikipedia entry on alternative rock.
Punk is a subclutre, that has her own fashion, ideology and music style, that called punk rock. Funk is a music style that has no connection to punk, it's actually a black music genere that developed from rhytm & blues i think.
