Trombones don't have fingerings because they don't have valves. Instead, they have slide positions. The positions for the B major scale, starting on a 2nd line B and ascending are 7, 5, 3, 2, 5, 3, 1, 4.

The correct scale for concert pitch C on a tenor horn is a C major.
The French horn is built so that it sounds in the key of F. If a hornist's music says to play a middle C, it will be the same pitch as an F below middle C on the piano. If a piece of music is writen in Concert F, a C-instrument, such as a trombone, will have one flat (B flat) in his or her key signature while a hornist will have no sharps or flats.

For grade 2 trombone, students typically need to know the concert B♭ major scale and its relative minor, G minor. They should also be familiar with the F major scale and possibly the D minor scale. These scales are generally played in one octave, and students may be required to perform them both ascending and descending. Additionally, they may practice simple exercises focusing on basic rhythms and articulations.
