In the first West End production of "Grease," which opened in 1973, the role of Danny was played by actor and singer, David Essex. The musical was a significant success and helped to popularize the show in the UK. Essex's portrayal contributed to the character's iconic status in musical theatre.
Cats premiered in the West End at the New London Theatre on May 11, 1981.
