second edit: There's this song "Octavarium" by Dream Theater that's 24-minutes long. If that's metal, then it's the longest metal song I have heard. Wikipedia says it's progressive metal, so technically it is not heavy metal (but all the metal's... AHHHG!) Anyhow, that's the longest I can think of. Lowering the tempo will usually lead to longer songs. Doom metal follows this principle. Funeral doom bands always have 10 minute songs, rarely shorter.

Songs longer than 79? Not sure if they are possible. They are... but they cannot be burned to a CD. Imroved anwser: Ok, I'm not going to go off on this guy because he is wrong, he has just never heard of Dream Theater. They have the longest heavy metal song (that I know of) clocking in at a whopping 56min. and i don't the the secongs, hope this helps

Noone can answer to that as each different human does have a different threshold of loud. For some Brutal Death Metal is the most loudest, noisest and irritiating of all Metal subgenres.
