"The Day That Never Comes is supposedly the day that the person who dies never sees. As in the following day."
^ this was the previous answer. after a bit of research, this does make complete sense. but I also had resources saying that it was about Kirk Hammett's father who was an Irish Merchant Marine, which explains the video as well as the song.
