'Jocelyn' his fourth opera (1888) is in four acts and was inspired by one of Alphonse de Lamartine's poems. The opera's libretto was written by P. Armand Silvestre and V. Capone. The story is based upon an earthly love which tempts a brother at a seminary. 'Jocelyn' is considered Godard's most popular opera and had a highly successful premiere in Brussels.
