Marc Bolan once said that he began recording singles because he wanted something that he liked to be number one. Bolan was Glam Rock's first number one artist. I would say that Glam was a combination of rock 'n' roll and 1960s "hippie" artists.

∙ 14y agoThe consensus of opinion attributes the start of Glam Rock to the late Marc Bolan of T.Rex fame. He first appeared on the BBC's Top of the Pops wearing make-up and glitter in late 1970 with their hit Ride A White Swan.
This look was then used by the rest of the Glam Rock Artistes such as David Bowie, The Sweet, Kiss etc. Then you had the rise of the pure Glam Rockers headed by Gary Glitter and the Glitter Band followed by the likes of Alvin Stardust, Barry Blue etc.
