Like all instruments the Saxophone sound is caused by vibrations, but unlike stringed instruments the molecules vibrating are purely air. The different pitches are caused by by pressing the various buttons which effects how long the air can stay in the saxophone body beofre being released. When fewer buttons are pressed a higher note sounds as the air is more condensed so the pitch is higher, and visa versa with lower notes.
In simplest possible terms, the vibrations of a player's lips causes the Trumpet to vibrate, which in turn vibrates the air inside of it, producing sound.
The saxophone makes sound by the person blowing into it. As the reed vibrates, the sound grows stronger until the sound that you hear is produced.
