I think the majority of the stigma against belly dancing, particularly in the United States, is the overt display of the human body. Belly dancers are usually wearing very little clothing as the art of the dance involves showing isolated muscle movements. Because of this lack of garb, Americans seem to automatically categorize belly dancing as lewd and sexual and, therefore, against true Christian morals.
