Al Hirt played Leblanc and later Courtois "Al Hirt" model horns. Models 707 sonic and model 207. These horns were made in Paris. Courtois is still in business today and no longer has an affiliation with the Leblanc makers. He played and endorsed "jet tone" Al Hirt model mouth peices. In the very early days he played the Martin Commitee horns.

Here's what I heard said by someone who attended a Herb Alpert concert in 2009. Alpert takes questions from the audience and was asked about his Trumpet. He played a Chicago Benge during his TJB days and for much of his solo career. He also played a Yamaha. He now plays a Callet SIMA.

∙ 12y agoWell, I just saw Herb Alpert and Lani Hall in concert and he fielded the questions as to his trumpet. He played a Chicago Benge in the TJB days, later a Yamaha, and currently a Sima trumpet. He also said that the trumpet is not as important as practice. He is 74 and still sounds great.
