Classical
I believe that it totally depends on the person and other factors. I always used to listen to quiet, instrumental background music when I studied in the past. It helped relax me and keep me focused. There are many discussions about the pros and cons of studying to music. I like the canadian website makeanexam's blog # 15 on music and studying.

I would say that in your case the music is distracting your attention from what you are trying to study... try listening to music that has no lyrics. Instrumental stuff actually helps me memorize better. Good luck with it!
Going to sleep while listening to music is completely safe. Sometimes, people listen to educational books or meditation soundtracks while trying to sleep. It is completely harmless, provided the sound is not too loud.
If you are talking about the books, then it's books by the AMEB (australian music examination board) for learning music theory. there are four grades and they are fantastic. they are generally completed by students in classroom music, but can also be completed by adults in various courses. there are exams to get certificates and it's compulsory for some grades of instrumental theory.they really are very good and cover writing and listening and studying instruments and pieces of music and i am currently studying grade 3.i hope you were talking about the books coz this is all a bit silly if you weren't!
Listening to jazz music while studying can be beneficial for some people as it can help create a calming and focused atmosphere. The smooth and rhythmic nature of jazz can help improve concentration and productivity for some individuals.

It depends what you are studying, the type of music listened to, and the individual doing the studying and listening, and the duration of the studying. I blame the rap music!
Not at all - watching TV while studying is going to end up with you knowing a lot about the TV show and not much at all about whatever you're supposed to be studying! You can have soft music on in the background while studying - make sure it's instrumental and quiet because studies show that loud music or music with a vocal track are just as distracting as a TV set.
Listening to any "complicated" music (classical is a good example) while doing something else that uses the brain a lot - crosswords or studying, for example - can help your brain to develop far more than either alone.
