It was originally from the band Pinkly Smooth (synyster gates and the revs old band) but the rev redid it for the nightmare album. There is some controversy as to what it's about because it sounds as if the rev is saying his final goodbyes to his fellow bandmates (he died three days after he wrote it) however, there is no proof for this as his autopsy results revealed he died from natural causes. To make the matter even more confusing though, the original title for the song was to be simply "Death" but the band changed it to "Fiction", a nickname the rev gave himself. All in all though, it seems as if the song is about the importance of friendship in this dark, distant and detached world we live in today. Matt shadows said in an interview that the entire album focuses on how emotionally detached kids are these days from the world so that could also be a part of the song. It is still incredibly sad to realize the man who wrote this amazing song is no longer with us, he was truly talented and his music touched all who listened to it. R.I.P. Jimmy! FoREVer!

The notes to Afterlife are: A G G F A G Eb D A G G F E D E D E D E D. These notes can be played on the alto sax, and basically any instrument. However, this part was played by strings in the original song.
The song afterlife, for those who know and have heard it, has excellent and catchy riffs. They can be difficult to pull off, but sidewinder has many , many more strings and notes all over the place with a hard to find pattern. Sidewinder would take much more time to learn. At the same time though, mastering afterlife and its solos would be tough
