Well To be honest, it is Jace because, Clary always dreamnt of him being an angel.The guy on the cover is actually Sebastian.Actually, the guy in the front is Sebastian not Jace. The reason Sebastian has wings in the backround (need to see closely to recognize) is because he is a demon. You will find out more of how Sebastian is demon if you keep reading the book. But to clear up your head, Sebastian is Clary's brother not Jace, so when Sebastian was still inside of Jocelyn, Clary's mother, Valentine got demon blood into Sebastian while he was still in the wound.

He wasn't. She's now a lesbian (As of City of Lost Souls). Clary was still in love with Jace, and was heart-broken when she saw them. :-)

Is jace from the mortal instruments really part demon?
Jace is not actually part demon. He is part angel, like clary, that's why they have similar scars. Jace is in fact the son Celia Herondale not valentine. Valentine just pretended he was Jace's father. The real Jonathan Christopher (Which is the actual son of valentine) is the one with demon blood. He pretended to be Sebastian in The third book, City of glass. Jace, Clary and Jonathan (Sebastian) Were all Valentines "Experiments." He wanted to create a super shadowhunter. But he failed with all of them. Jonathan was loyal but he never loved valentine and jace was too caring and not loyal enough. Jace and clary both turned against their father using there rare talents. (Clary with runes, and jace with enhanced 'shadowhunter powers') Jace and clary are not related.
