You didn't explain what this confidential matter was about. If it's something a close friend or family member told you and your husband can't keep it a secret, it's best to keep it to yourself. If you don't you've broken that confidence to the person it is about. When a person tells you something in confidence they are trusting you with a lot and unless they plan to take their own lives, then it's your trust that must remain with them. If it's business then you don't have much choice. I just recently had to renew our Will and of course it's left up to me, but my husband has every right to know about it and I sat down and asked about his wishes and then made a list of what we wanted and took it to the lawyer. Also any business decisions I will let my husband know about. I have many secrets from friends who have told me about their life (some of it is pretty bad, but they are good people) and I don't tell my husband. If you have a daughter that is pregnant, a son/daughter that is gay, then you are going to have to bite the bullet and tell your husband. Unless it effects his lifestyle you don't have to tell him every single secret on your mind. If you health is not good, then it's up to you to share with your husband or it will be one big unpleasant surprise to him and no one deserves that. Separate cupboard with lock and key. Even carbon paper should be teared off after using for typing the draft.
