In his high school years he tried; out for football, and succeeded to be a part of the ROTC - Library Club - and in his later high school years he entered into the Humes High School talent show and won. At age 6 Elvis entered himself in the talent contest at the Mississippi/Alabama Fair, without his mother or fathers permission, and Elvis sang and won 6th prize. In the mid 1950' Elvis tried out for the Grand Ole Opry and was not successful. In the mid 50's Elvis tried out for and was successful on the Louisiana Hayride. Elvis tried out for the Dorsey Brothers Show, the Steve Allen Show, the Milton Berle Show, and the Ed Sullivan Show (in the 50's) and in each appearance Elvis viewing audience was massive and the percentage of people watching Elvis versus the total number of people in the US at the time (about 50 million people in the mid 1950's) will never be exceeded as Elvis captured over 94% of the viewing audience. No one since has ever come close to that percentage.
