On his first album, 'Kristofferson' {1970} (re-released on the Columbia label as 'Me & Bobby McGee'{1973}) Kris dedicated his song "To Beat the Devil" to John and June Carter Cash, whom he says at the beginning of the song, '...helped show him how to beat the devil.'
Then, in the late 70's or early '80's Kris wrote 'Good Morning John', which is a reflective declaration of his loyal friendship to his hero turned friend Johnny Cash. He performed it on one of Johnny Cash's TV specials in the '80's. It was recorded by Waylon Jennings' on his album, 'Turn the Page'{1985}. Waylon & John became good friends & roommates in Nashville during the early 60's. Their drug fuelled escapades were as notorious as they are legendary.) Kris recorded it for his 20th studio album, 'Closer to the Bone'.
