The major motion picture of 1967, "Bonnie and Clyde," was the inspiration for the song. Travis took the story and updated it to a more modern version in the hit and in his video for the tune. The hit movie included Warren Beatty, Fay Dunaway, Gene Hackman, and Estelle Parsons. Pasons won the Oscar for "Best Supporting Actress Award." Also, Gene Wilder is in the movie, but, only for a brief moment. This was his first film. --- Travis had Billy Bob Thornton in his video. That makes people think it is excerpts from a movie, but it is just in fact part of the video.
Actually there aren't any chapters, "The One that Got Away" is the 6th single off her album Teenage Dream, so that's what it means. I'm not sure unless it has to do with her movie coming out in July.

He is speaking of his daughter, Hailie Jade Mathers, who was around six when she sang a duet with him in this song. Um no. You would be wrong, idiot. He says Clyde Mathers. And Hailie's name is Hailie Jade Scott. Get your facts straight. Uh, no again. The first answer was right, get YOUR facts straight. He was referring to 'Bonnie and Clyde' which is what he calls Hailie and himself. The next line says something about "Bonnie Jade" for Hailie. You didn't answer his question properly... He wasn't referring to Hailie when he said "Clyde Mathers". In the line, he was referring to himself. The "Clyde" part is from that movie "Bonnie and Clyde". He also made a song called "97 Bonnie and Clyde" in which he compared himself and Hailie, to Clyde and Bonnie. (From the movie.)
