Somewhere Over the Rainbow is a good song because you can add a lot of harmonies and is really easy to sing acapella. If you listen to either of the glee versions that may help. You could also try rumour has it by adele but I don't know how great that would sound acapella..... or you could try any adele song really but again, they may or may not sound bad acapella.
Alto is a choral line, not a voice type. Those who sing the alto line are mezzo-sopranos, and they are women (or children). Paul Simon is not an alto or mezzo-soprano. Off the top of my head (without researching specific high and low notes he's sung) I would consider him a tenor.
No, altos are not the same as mezzo-sopranos. Altos are the lowest voice part, followed by mezzo-soprano. While most of the time they sing harmony to sopranos, they are not the same.
bass tenor alto surprano
Great singer will not limit themselves on one category. In case of Christina, I think that she is a soprano. But I believe that Christina can sing an Alto song beautifully with an Alto timbre. She is gifted so much both color of voice and vocal ranges. So I think we should forget about classifying her voice type because she is a rare case. But guess what! It takes time, practice, luck, a good training and musical talent in order to become a rare case like that and you can be one of them.
She is an underdeveloped soprano. Her voice is light like a soprano, but is not developed like a true soprano. Very few women are true contraltos, a good example is Pink. A mezzo-soprano has a "darker" vocal quality, but not the depth of a contralto. Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani are mezzo-sopranos. Vocal type is based on timbre or tone quality, not range. Many sopranos, such as Mariah Carey, have the ability to sing extreme low notes. ---- Because of the excessive use of autotune, you will never know. Allow me to fix some of this yes P!nk is an alto but so is Mariah.

Altos are considered a low to mid-range vocal range in choral music. They often sing the harmony part that falls between sopranos and tenors.
In choruses there are sopranos, altos, tenors and basses, but in solo voices there are also countertenors, mezzo-sopranos and baritones. From highest female to lowest male they go soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto (alto for short) counter-tenor (a male alto), tenor, baritone and bass.

He took up the alto saxophone in his high school band.
He's a tenor. The terms "soprano" and "alto" tend to refer to females, though there are boy sopranos (trebles) and male altos (also called countertenors).
Terman Middle School
The motto of Shrewsbury House School is 'Alto Peto'.
The order from highest to lowest is treble, alto, and bass. The treble voice typically represents the highest range, often sung by sopranos. The alto voice follows, providing a lower harmony, while the bass voice is the lowest, usually sung by men. This arrangement is commonly used in choral music and vocal ensembles.
