It doesn't 'replace' anything, except perhaps the need for cassette tapes and CDs

in the car, if you do a lot of driving out in the country and you've just gotta have

your favorite kind of music playing at all times.

I guess it also replaces some of the former necessity of physically inverting the

customer and shaking him in order to liberate some of the change from his pocket

and transfer title to it.
