Super Trouper was ABBA's last number one hit in the UK, back in 1980. However there are some who believe that One of Us (1981) should hold the title. It reached number three in December of 81 on the national British chart. But there was no chart the following week, because of Christmas holidays, while the song reached number one on a number of regional British charts.

The last Abba track to be recorded was "The Day Before You Came", on August 20, 1982. It was not, however, the last to be released. The single was issued on October 18, 1982. "Under Attack" and "Thank You for the Music" were both released as singles in 1983.

Even though Abba never officially disbanded, sound engineer Michael Tretow has said the mood was sombre when "Day Before You Came" was recorded as everyone sensed it was the end. Agnetha Faltskog, who sings the song solo, recorded the vocal alone in a darkened studio.

The video for the song was one of the few Abba videos not directed by future Oscar-nominee Lasse Hallstrom. It was directed by Kjell Sundvall, and was one of the band's most ambitious, featuring Agnetha and Swedish actor Jonas Bergström meeting on a train.

"The Day Before You Came" was originally recorded with a few other tracks for a planned ninth Abba studio album that never materialized. It was later included in re-issues of Abba's final album, "The Visitors". The single was a disappointment, peaking only at 32 on the UK pop chart and 48 in Australia. (It made the top five in some European countries and on the Canadian adult contemporary chart.) But in 2010 a British TV network poll found that the song was now the third most popular Abba track in the UK. The same year, an article by music critic Stephen Emms in The Guardian, called the song an underrated masterpiece. He said, "The track's power lies in its layering of boredom and grandeur, transience and doom" with "a rising sense of melancholy, both in its melody and production" and "wistful, nostalgic lyrics".

Abba's last appearance on a UK Top-40 chart was in 2004 when "Waterloo", re-released on the 30th anniversary of its Eurovision win, reached #20.

The band's last chart appearance at the end of their active career together was in 1983, when "Thank You for the Music" reached #33.

Some might even quibble with that last one, since the song was actually from the band's 1977 album, "The Album". So the last original, newly produced single was "Under Attack", which reached #26 in the UK in 1982.

It all depends on the country and chart. Strictly speaking, ABBA had a #1 in Belgium, Germany, Ireland, and The Netherlands in 1981 with "One of Us". The last UK hit was "Super Trouper" (1980). In The US, the last Billboard Hot 100 song was "Dancing Queen" (1976), but they had a #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1980 with "The Winner Takes It All" and a number one on the dance chart in 1980 with Super Trouper.

It would depend on what country you are talking about. In the UK I believe it was Super Trouper. In the US it was Dancing Queen.

What is the last word of the last song on the last album to be recorded by the Beatles?

Despite Let It Be being released in 1970 and Abbey Road in 1969, Abbey Road was actually recorded last. There is some debate over which song is actually the last one - The End or Her Majesty, since some people don't believe Her Majesty to be an actual song. If counting The End as the last song, the last word is "make". If counting Her Majesty as the last song, the last word is "mine".
