Experimental Radio was an unlicensed, low power FM station, operating from a garage studio on Hannum Avenue in Culver City, CA from December, 1970 until 1982 when its "curator" left the area. Operating in stereo at 89.5 MHz, the station featured music, comedy, spoken and miscellaneous material of all types, guided by listener phone requests and the passions of those who "played radio."
Listeners were encouraged to drop by and do guest "shows" featuring their own favorite recordings or performing live. Guidelines were few, other than forbidding commercial advertising, discouraging obscenity and keeping the ego level as low as possible.
Despite its small coverage area, the station had amassed over 1000 signatures in its guest book at the time it ceased operation.
