The song "If I Can Dream" was specifically written for the 1968 TV Special entitled "Elvis" sponsored by the Singer Sewing Company. It was originally supposed to be a "simple Christmas Special" where Elvis sang some Christmas Songs and said goodnight.

Elvis wanted a "closing number" that truly reflected what he was feeling about his fellow man. The end result was the song "If I Can Dream" which Elvis was given less than 72 hours to memorize and rehearse.

Elvis' TV appearance, in his white custom made suit, singing "If I Can Dream" is one of his greatest performances and stands up as relevant and powerful today as it was in 1968.
