There are many types of music (classical, rock, reggae) and although the more contempory 'genres' tend to bleed into one another, most older forms (baroque etc) are named after a particular era. Parker's virtuosic playing and unique phrasing made a lasting impact on the genre, influencing countless musicians and shaping the direction of jazz for generations to come.
