I can't be absolutely certain as to what was the first Depeche Mode song was. However, when the band first began they produced a demo tape which contained three songs which were; Ice Machine, Radio News (an instrumental) and Photographic. I would put my money on Radio News as being the first Depeche Mode song. Their first hit record though was 'New Life'. A point of note; the lyrics were written by Paul Spector who was fourteen at the time and did not want to be credited with it and the cover designed by Vince Clark's brother Rodney Martin. I hope this was of some help to you.
No, but he wrote "Take it Easy"-one of their hits.
