Out of service, heavy fines, vehicle impounded.
You'd be arrested, naturally. You'd likely receive a sentence of some sort, which may be community service. And it's going to impede your ability to get a licence - they can render you ineligible to receive a drivers licence until the age of 21, if they so wish.

This is likely to be a bad alternator or broken belt. This is common with GM cars, and it's happened to me more than once.
Its the service warning light. If you are due your sevice it illuminates. If, however you have just had the service then the mechanic failed to reset the service feature through the dashboard.

You can drive your car with the yellow 'service engine' light on the dashboard, but it is not recommended. This light warns you of the need to have the engine serviced.
If the check engine light is blinking that indicates that the catalytic converter will possibly be damaged if you ignore the problem and continue driving the vehicle. i had a car in the shop here last week with that problem and it turned out to be a cracked vacumn hose. I lifted the hood and could hear the hissing sound from the vacumn leak . The crack was in the 90 degree bent hose connected to the PCV valve. This was a GM vehicle with the 3400 engine.
time for a service!
