CDs have probably been around for about 30 years, but of course in those days a CD player would have cost you over 5,000 dollars, and there were precious few CDs around to play on them. CDs shared shelf space in record stores alongside LPs and cassettes until about the late 1980s when LPs disappeared literally overnight and were replaced by CD versions of everything.
