The piano wasn't fully developed until later in the 18th century, but he started learning the clavier (a keyboard instrument) at the age of 3 in 1759. Once he developed prowess with such keyboard instruments as the aforementioned, the piano was an easy transition for him, and he brought quite a bit toward its development. He also learned keyboard at a later age and started composing at 5 years of age
Mozart did not learn to read until the age of 14. For most of his childhood, he was uneducated and illiterate.
His father, Leopold Mozart, taught him, although he probably taught himself quite a bit. He learned to play the clavier when he was an infant.

He tried to learn play the piano at an old age when he found his violin too hard for his fingers. His mother, who loved music, made him learn to play the violin when he was 5. At first he hated it but later when he learned it with practice he got really good at it. He loved Mozart.
