Paul Tutmarc invented the electrically amplified bass in 1930 and bass fiddle in 1935. He was mainly the spokesman for his Audiovox company and most of the glory went to the actual inventor of the Electric Guitar, George Beauchamp in 1931, later selling the patent to Adolph Richenbacher who developed the first electric guitar (Rickenbacker) in 1932.

There is no real 'father' of the guitar. Although, the person responsible for the modern classical guitar is Francisco Tarrega. Depending on the guitar, you can conclude who is the father of that guitar. For example: Les paul is the 'father' of Les Paul guitars...and son on.
THE original bass guitar was developed bu Paul Tutmarc in the 1930s as a replacement for the double bass, but he received little success for the invention. In the 1950's Leo Fender (who, obviously, is the man who strated Fender. Doesn;t have anything to do with it any more but that's another story) took the idea and produced the first mass produced bass guitar on the market; the precision bass. This was hugely popular and since bass guitars have become the norm in all bands, and variations upon the precision and still made and extremely popular.
Paul Tutmarc did not invent the electric bass. Leo Fender did in 1951. It was the Precision bass.
